Undefeated Billies to host tourney

Battlin’ Billies basketball heads into the holiday undefeated.

Wins against Hondo, 80-43, and Ingram, 74-16, extended the Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ early season record to 16-0.

The Billies ranked No. 21 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 4A poll.

Next up is the Fredericksburg Chicken Express Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27-28, at the FHS Gyms.

The Billies play San Antonio Kennedy at 9 a.m. and Roma at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and Cleburne at 9 a.m. and Sweetwater at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Participating in the tournament are Cleburne, Georgetown, Graham, Granbury, Midlothian Heritage, Hondo, San Antonio Kennedy, Marble Falls, Roma, Salado, Austin Savio and Sweetwater.

All FHS games are set for the Main Gym.

The Billies handily beat Hondo to record win No. 16.

Senior Ryan Davis hit three 3-pointers and totaled 19 points in FHS’ 80-43 win over the Hondo Owls on Friday.

“Very nice win against a good Hondo team, who is now 9-6,” coach Tim Kaman said. “Pretty solid game in most facets. We got after it defensively and hit some shots.”

Sanchez added 10 points while contributing with defense, rebounds and ballhandling.

Junior Colby Brasher did a nice job on the boards and defense, Kaman said.

“A very good overall effort by all,” Kaman said. “A good team win going into the Christmas break. I just hope that this break does not slow down our momentum.”

FHS 74, Ingram 14

The Billies beat a struggling Ingram Warriors team, 74-16, on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Senior Tucker Elliott came off the bench to score 16 points, including four from beyond the arc, and Davis added another 13 to lead FHS.

“Well, not much to say about this one,” Kaman said. “We had them overmatched from the beginning. Ingram has had so much basketball tradition in the past, but they are struggling right now.”

FHS’ pressure defense factor helped the team to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter, which grew despite the Billies getting out of their full-court press before the second quarter.
